ICELAND, FIRE AND ICE

ICELAND brings to mind an image of a cold, desolate place.

Nothing could be further from the truth! In fact it’s a very GREEN place, and in May the sun barely sets. The land is filled with history of Viking conquests (and even has an open air museum showing an excavation of a Viking long-house, right in the middle of Reykjavik!), old and new volcanoes that erupt periodically, and legends of the “little people” who are so much a part of the country’s history, road crews must occasionally change their road plans so as to avoid the homes of these invisible little leprechauns.

Our excursions will include a trip to see “Geysir” erupt, and several lovely waterfalls including Gullfoss. We’ll take a whale-watching cruise out from Reykavik Harbor. We’ll explore the city’s Culture House to see the 1000-year-old Sagas (books) protected under glass.

We’ll eat fish, and we’ll shop.

Included:  Three meals daily, all activities and excursions, transportation and transfers within the city, and lodging. Not included: Airfare, spending money for souvenirs and snacks.

Iceland is expensive, but it’s one of the loveliest gems in the ocean. People are often surprised to know that Reykjavik is a short 5 hour flight from Minneapolis; it’s closer, by far, than Hawaii.
